What is Phoonk about?
Phoonk is a Hindi-language film that was released on August 22, 2008. It was produced by Praveen Nischol and Azam Khan, and written by Milind Gadagkar. The film stars Sudeep as Rajiv, an atheist civil engineer who lives in Mumbai with his wife Arati (Amruta Khanvilkar), his two children Raksha (Ahsaas Channa) and Rohan (Shrey Bawa), his mother (Jyoti Subhash), and his housemaid Laxmi (Anu Ansari). Rajiv's most trusted colleagues are Anshuman (Kenneth Desai) and Madhu (Ashwini Kalsekar), who are involved in black magic.
One day, Rajiv discovers that Anshuman and Madhu have cheated him on a valuable contract for an IT firm in Delhi. He fires them both after humiliating them in front of everyone. Madhu decides to take revenge on Rajiv by putting a black magic spell on his daughter Raksha. Soon, Raksha starts to behave strangely and shows signs of being possessed by a demonic entity. Rajiv refuses to believe in any supernatural explanation and relies on medical help from Dr. Pandey (K.K. Raina) and Dr. Seema Walke (Lillete Dubey). However, he soon realizes that his daughter's life is in danger from inexplicable forces.
Rajiv's friend Vinay (Ganesh Yadav) suggests him to seek help from a man named Manja (Zakir Hussain), who is an expert in exorcism and occult practices. Manja agrees to help Rajiv and tells him that the only way to save Raksha is to kill the person who cast the spell on her. Rajiv is reluctant to kill anyone, but he has no choice when he finds out that Madhu is behind the curse. He confronts Madhu and kills her with a trident, breaking the spell and freeing Raksha from the evil spirit. The film ends with Rajiv and his family celebrating Raksha's birthday, while Manja warns him that there are more evil forces in the world than he can imagine.
